About Hollis
from Mindful Speech Therapy

Hi, I’m Hollis!

I became a speech-language pathologist in order to combine my lifelong love of language with my passion for helping people

I believe that every person deserves to have the language, literacy, and executive functioning skills they need to live a joyful life. Therapy at Mindful Speech is focused on building skills to help with everyday life, based on every individual’s unique goals, like telling funny stories, being more efficient with work so you can get to the fun stuff, reading, writing, giving presentations, and so much more.

My Work with Children and Adolescents

I understand that parents are often worried about their children when they struggle with reading and writing. They might worry that their child will start to hate school and lose confidence in themselves.

The children I’ve worked with have gone from avoiding writing essays so much that they are failing their class to actually enjoying writing essays that get to express their point of view. They’ve gone from struggling to understand long sentences to being able to summarize long paragraphs and articles in their own words. Every child I’ve worked with has made progress - just like yours will.

So that your child can start feeling confident communicating, enjoying reading, and sharing their great ideas with the world, schedule your free (virtual) consultation today.

My Work with Adults with ADHD

I know that for many adults with ADHD being behind on deadlines and constantly staying late at work might have you feeling burnt out, stressed, and maybe even feeling inadequate. You might have even been excited when you got your ADHD diagnosis (finally, an answer!!) but now you are feeling stuck about how to make things easier with your ADHD.

The adults I’ve worked with have gone from staying up late all weekend to meet a deadline to actively planning ahead, delegating, and picking up old hobbies for fun again. In short, they’ve learned how to thrive with ADHD - just like you will.

So that you can start getting the weekly accountability, skills, and tools you need to thrive with ADHD, book your free (virtual) consultation today.

Hollis’s Education and Training

I attended Northeastern University in Boston for my B.A. in Linguistics and worked on language acquisition research at Harvard University, Northeastern University, and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern in Germany which led me to my true love: language therapy.

Following a Fulbright Fellowship in Germany, I graduated with my master’s degree in Speech-language Pathology from Massachusetts General Hospital’s Institute of Health Professions

I completed my clinical fellowship in Colorado Springs, before returning to my hometown of Chicago.

As an SLP, I have worked across the age span, from toddlers to geriatrics, in a variety of settings, such as outpatient clinics, private schools, in clients’ homes, and daycares.

I am also a certified children’s yoga instructor through Kidding Around Yoga, and love to involve mindfulness practice in my therapy sessions.
